A toolkit for Margate

As part of the work to get Margate ready for the opening of Turner Contemporary, work has been done to create a toolkit that will be used to help promote Margate, it will include:

  • A new strapline for Margate
  • Typography for Margate
  • New words and colours for Margate
  • A photographic library which includes historical and current photographs of Margate

Want a copy of the toolkit?

If you would like to request a copy of the Margate toolkit call 01843 577169

You can see a selection of Margate photos in our gallery and we will soon be adding a selection of old Margate photos too.

What's is the toolkit for?

We want a create a set of tools to guide the way we tell Margate’s story.   The toolkit will be used primarily to:

  • Help to shape the physical improvements planned for the town
  • To promote Margate and shape our marketing direction
  • Involve and change people’s perceptions of the town
  • Provide tools for a range of different stakeholders to use to promote Margate including partners, press, local businesses and community groups

The toolkit will be used primarily by the key partners involved in regenerating Margate to promote the town. The tools within the toolkit, the graphics, the colours, the words and photos, will be used on marketing materials (online, printed), for press and advertising, as well as on physical improvements such as street furniture and to shape tourism events.  We would also like to have aspects of the toolkit available for wider use too, by local businesses, press and other agencies.

Who's been involved?

  • We’ve worked with a range of different people and professionals from Margate, to discuss the values and visuals for Margate before the typography was created
  • We held an event in November at the Harbour Cafe to involve local people in the words and photographs for Margate.
  • We’ve shown the typography ideas to focus groups of potential visitors in London and other parts of Kent
