This is Margate Photography Competition

As part of the work to get Margate ready for the opening of the Turner Contemporary in Spring 2011, we ran a photography competition to kick start the development of a Margate photo library, which will be used to promote the town.

 

We received nearly 400 entries into the competition and we would like to say a big thank you for everyone who took part! Our judges have had a really hard time deciding their favourites but we managed to announce a shortlist of 30 photographs in the competition. Which then went to the public to vote online and at a public exhibition at the Tudor House, Margate.

 

Over 1,100 votes were received and we are please to announce the overall winner of the competition, who was chosen by Martin Parr, international Magnum photographer from the six photographs that received the most public votes.

 

All six finalists were presented with a framed copy of their photograph, with the overall winner receiving £500 of shopping vouchers and the five runners up each receiving £25 shopping vouchers.

VIP guest judge Martin Parr, also gave his seal of approval to three additional photographs awarding Gerardo Calia a special prize for his Walpole Bay cream tea photo and highly commending Peter Davis for his snowy bandstand and Rosie Anton  for her tea at the Nayland Rock Hotel.  All three winners received their own framed photo, and top prize winner Gerardo Calia also received £100 shopping vouchers and a signed book from Martin Parr.
